This is the first of four books for young adults set in Lily Dale, New York, a community of mediums and other spiritualists. Each book is prefaced with a story by Ms. Staub about visiting Lily Dale and her own fascination with it. If not for the mystery and the setting, I would have given up on them. I have read and enjoyed a number of books for YA, but honestly, I felt like the writing level was beneath YA. And there are no kudos for writing style in these, either, as there were so many errors that were not possibly typos, including things like using 'was' instead of 'were'. I've always enjoyed Ms. Staub's thriller books, but I think in stepping outside that genre she did herself a disservice.Product details

Whatever the official genre this is a good storyteller's book. It. Was rather abruptly ended but I think that's the new thing in series.
I read it when I came out and my daughter wanted a good audio book to listen to on the way to soccer games so I downloaded this one for her. I am up to book 3 for her now, she loves them.
The plot keeps you going side by side with this young girl trying to answer questions from her past. The story is well defined and easy to follow all the twist and turns the characters are vivid and strong. Love it and recommend
I was not sure about what to expect from this book. I usually lean towards murder misteries, but this hint of the occult caught my attention. The book begins when Stephanie was giving birth to Calla and about how Stephanie denied her roots. Calla at age 17 finds her mother dead and this seems to precipitate her psychic abilities. The book is engaging, seems geared towards young adults, but it kept me intrigued until the end, and now I want to know what else is happening in Lily Dale. Can't wait to read book 2 of this series.
I did not realize this was written for a young audience until I began reading it. True to Staub's writings the book was interesting and easily read. Maybe a younger reader would give it five stars but for the adult accustomed to reading Staub's adult books, it is a bit simple. I donated it to my local library and i am sure it will be enjoyed.
I’m generally no fan of paranormal stories. But this tale of a teen discovering the fascinating real-world Spiritualist community of Lily Dale, in western NY, and her own powers is very satisfying. I read it in one day. Calla, the young hero, and her supporting cast are well-drawn. The writing is smooth. The pacing outstanding.
